September 26, 2017

Des Moines, IA- Today State Senator Nate Boulton, Democratic candidate for governor, was endorsed by the United Food and Commercial Workers which represents over 9600 Iowans statewide. Roger Kail, the president of UFCW Local 1149, had the following statement at the endorsement event:

“Today I am excited to announce that the UFCW is endorsing Nate Boulton to be the next governor of Iowa,” said Kail. “Nate has always had the backs of workers from being our lawyer at Local 1149 to leading the charge to defend collective bargaining as state senator. We know as Governor, he will fight for every Iowan to earn a living wage, have the right to a union, and have a safe work environment. The UFCW is proud to be running with Nate.”

Nate’s grandfather was a chief union steward for the UFCW in a Rath packing house for 20 years. Nate made the following statement upon receiving the UFCW endorsement:

“My grandfather, Ray Boulton, spent 20 years as chief union steward in a Columbus Junction packing house,” said Boulton. “Today, we announce with pride that his union, the UFCW, has endorsed our campaign. With the recent attacks on workers’ rights, Iowa’s workers need someone to stand up for their economic security.”

This endorsement is the 28th union to endorse Nate in his campaign for governor.
